Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Odisha and West Bengal are among the 16 states expected to receive heavy rain on September 18, 2026.
The IMD has advised people in hilly states such as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand to exercise additional caution. In coastal areas such as West Bengal and Odisha, fishermen have been issued a special warning and advised not to venture into the sea during periods of strong winds. People in rural areas have also been warned about lightning and advised not to take shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
In Delhi, heavy rain and storm conditions are expected on September 18, with winds likely to reach 40 to 50 kmph. The maximum temperature is expected to be 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may remain around 24 degrees Celsius.
In Bihar, heavy rain has been forecast for Patna, Gaya, Bhojpur, Madhubani, Buxar, Darbhanga, Araria, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Siwan, Supaul, Purnia, Munger and Begusarai. In Uttar Pradesh, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Agra, Meerut, Jhansi, Etawah and Rae Bareli. Lucknow is expected to record a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.
Madhya Pradesh is also likely to experience heavy rain accompanied by stormy winds. Vidisha, Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Dewas, Khandwa, Katni, Harda, Seoni, Narsinghpur, Damoh, Mandla and Anuppur are under the weather warning. Winds may reach 50 to 55 kmph. Bhopal is expected to record a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23 degrees Celsius.
In Rajasthan, heavy rain has been forecast for Kota, Udaipur, Barmer, Jaipur, Alwar, Baran, Sawai Madhopur, Bhilwara, Alwar, Bharatpur and Bundi. Strong wind gusts may reach 70 kmph. Jaipur is expected to record a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius.
Himachal Pradesh is also under a rain warning, with Solan, Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur, Una, Chamba, Kinnaur and Bilaspur expected to receive significant rainfall. Strong winds may reach 50 to 55 kmph. Manali is expected to record a maximum temperature of 11 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 1 degree Celsius.
In Uttarakhand, a warning for stormy rain has been issued for Uttarkashi, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal, Bageshwar and Pauri Garhwal. Winds may reach 45 kmph. Dehradun is expected to record a maximum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius.
Maharashtra is also expected to witness thunderstorms and heavy rain. Palghar, Nashik, Thane, Gadchiroli and Dhule are under a heavy rain warning, with winds likely to reach 40 to 45 kmph. Mumbai is expected to record a maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius.

Winds may reach 70 kmph. Ranchi is expected to record a maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius.
In Jammu and Kashmir, an alert for thunderstorms and rain has been issued for Ramban, Poonch, Rajouri, Baramulla, Bandipora, Anantnag, Reasi and Kishtwar. Strong winds may reach 50 kmph. Srinagar is expected to record a maximum temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 12 degrees Celsius.
Gujarat is also likely to witness stormy weather. Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, Kheda, Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Panchmahal and Mahisagar are under a stormy rain alert. Winds may reach speeds of 50 to 60 kmph. Gandhinagar is expected to record a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
West Bengal is likely to receive heavy rain along with thunderstorms in Cooch Behar, Birbhum, Jalpaiguri, Bankura, Alipurduar, Howrah, Kolkata and Durgapur. Winds may reach 70 kmph. Kolkata is expected to record a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.
The combination of heavy rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning has prompted warnings across multiple regions, with particular caution advised for farmers, residents of hilly areas and fishermen in coastal zones.
